Giorgio Bernardini was born in Turin in 1939. He starts his artistical career first collaborating as scene painter at RAI-TV studios, then as designer and advertising graphic.
But this is a short parenthesis due to his great curiosity to make new experiences, that neverthless he gave it up soon to follow his true vocation, painting: in fact in the meanwhile he improves his painting tecnique under the guidance of famous masters as Divizia, Bosio, Pippo Bercetti, N. Cambursano and Corio. In 1967 he had the commitment of restoring some rare eighteenth-century frescoes in Liguria; he finds in this region an environment with strong and severe contrasts between sea and rocks, lights and shadows, stillness of olive-yards and noise of beaches, that since then has distinguished his art, and he decides, in 1969, to move to Western Liguria, opening his own atelier - gallery in Andora.
The cosmopolite atmosphere of Riviera promotes contacts with the large German community spending its holidays there, and soon Giorgio Bernardini's studio grow into a fixed reference for his numerous friends from Northern Europe, that become great extimators of his work and of his companionship: his knowledge of more picturesque corners of Liguria, beyond usual touristic sites, makes a precious guide of him.
In 1976 he join a German expedition to Svalbard Islands and into Norvegian polar region, to make a personal research about light. In the photo Giorgio Bernardini is giving a paint to norvegian scientist and navigator Thor Heyerdahl. Between his pieces of greater relevance we can remember: the "Madonna della tenerezza" into "Cuore Immacolato di Maria" Church in Andora, the "Madonna della neve" into the Sanctuary of Lequio Berria (CN), the "Madonna del cammino", fresco, into the new Chapel of Roddi d'Alba, the "Madonna della Tenerezza" painted again on request for the Sant'Antonio Church in Valenza Po. Furthermore we can't forget frescoes realized into the Villa Musso (Andora), into the Chapel of Notre Dame du Tamaje (Valbonne - France), into the Concert Room of Roddi d'Alba (CN), the restauration of frescoes in Rollo and scenographies of the "BIT BELOW" disco in Andora.
In Carlo Ponti's movie "La Poliziotta" his painting "Il ponte sull'Adda" gives the cue to the starting scene.
His works, granted of many acknowledgements, are hosted into Italian, German, French, Spanish, Norvegian, Canadian, American, Australian and Japanese collections.
In 1999 Giorgio Bernardini moves from Andora to Icod De Los Vinos, Tenerife (Canary Islands), where presently lives with his wife Alexandra.
His thoughts on art I love all that is distinghished with the word "art". There is a clear link between art and man. The definition, in the general sense of the word, could be extended to an enormous extent of ideological concepts and nature gives us an example.
I love the art that has preceded us, giving us benefit of a wide theorical and artistic patrimony.
Modern art has been able to free itself from all that though preserving its morality and this is why, as a product of human thought, has achieved the most complete forms of expression.
